WLKY-Bin Laden Politics?

When WLKY had a story about the Bin a Laden shooting that was under politics.  Why is it in the politics area seeing as it is more of a human interest story?  True, Bin Laden did cause many disasters and committed many crimes, but the story about a military officer taking the credit has nothing to do with that.  It is making the interesting important by taking a story about a potential celebrity and making it a government story.  The effects of Bin Laden have been massive, but the effects of a officer taking the credit for shooting him will not last as long as the original story of Bin Laden's death.  This story is one to ponder but not under the politics section.  It is one leaning more towards the human interest section.  It also lacks in sources, the main source isn't even the ex SEAL himself, but a interview done by the Washington post.  This story may seem important but with a lack of sources and a placement in the wrong category it is lacking in important criteria.  This should be recategorized and they should get an interview with the officer as well as the other officers that were there.

Jessica Martel's blog- highly intellectual

Jessica is a highly intellectual student and  a fabulous writer.  Jessica's blog is no exception all the pieces are well written and have little pieces of funny facts.  She has also embedded her ideas in her stories in a way that always makes me nod in agreement and and just shake my head.  Her ideas are so well worded that I can't help but learn so many new things.  Her ideals are ones that I agree with and, I feel that instead of just restating a fact she makes it flow right into her opinion.  Almost like it was made to go along with it.  Her huge vocabulary and well thought out explanations seem beyond most that I have seen ever.  All I can do when I see this  is shake my head  in astonishment at all of her wonderful pieces.  Her blog is one of my favorites to read when I need help understanding a topic or I'm conflicted about an idea.

Nyah's blog-insightful

When reading Nyah's blog it felt like I was just talking to her.  Her stories were full of information but also her opinion.  The creative titles really stood out as they were comical and it made me want to read the stories.  Her stories were very thorough and her ideas made me think about the information instead of just absorbing it.  Her ideas are clear and well thought out and they smoothly fit into the topics that she is writing about.  In general this blog is helpful and will make you think.

Sylvia Goodman's blog- eye catching

Sylvia's blog caught my eye right away with the site's bright blue color and graphs.  She used graphs to demonstrate the difference between stations, which helps bring out the element of her story that is the main focus.  The graphs are not just under the text but used in the passage to help support her case.  Their bright colors also bring our eyes directly to them.  Besides her media critiques she has very well explained views on some of her fellow classmates' blogs.  Without reading the original blog post I was able to understand the basic concept of the post.  While critiquing she also looked at the mistakes they made and analyzed them.  She gave good feedback that seemed to be very constructive and understanding.  Along with these reviews she also comments on class lectures such as the radio lecture.  She views of the lecture were slightly confusing at first but then I read them again and understood.  I agree that radio has demassified to niche audiences on its channels but if I were a person who had never heard that lecture I wouldn't understand.  When she explains lectures she should add more detail on what happened, how it happened and what it is.  Besides that I enjoyed reading her blog and looking at her graphs.

Kathryn Minor's well organized blog

On a first glance of her blog it gives a very simply appearance.  It is well organized and takes almost no time to find the story I want to read.  Her insightful views on the different topics really deepened my understanding of it.  She explained it a way that was easy to understand and uses different ways to tell the information.  Her blogs titles are clear and get across the message that she wants to display.  Her stories are never too short and use details to back up her explanation.  Overall it's well organized and thorough blog that helps people understand her ideals.

WLKY-Snake tale under money column?

While searching through the news on their website I happened to come across an interesting story in the money column.  It was a story announcing a new program called "Eaten Alive" on the Discovery channel.  The program was about a man who was suited up and willing eaten by a giant snake.  Though it was interesting to read I was confused, why is an entertainment story in the money ctaegory?  That has absolutely nothing to do with  money and is not newsworthy.  It's a human interest story and will not have a consecutive effect on our lives a couple monthes.  It may seem important now or even next week, but its impact is small and can not drastically change our lives.  While news under the money column  should  affect our financial  decisions  that will lead to many things  that will last months down the road..  This story violates how newsworthy a real news story should be and what kind  of story it should be labelled as.

Television- lecture

The television came along after World War 2, it moved live moving picture news into the homes of the average family.  It was becoming very popular as people came into more money after the war it enabled them to watch shows and movies when ever they wanted to.  As it embedded itself into our lives it has many impacts on us.  Television influences our attitudes, behavior, and spending habits by changing how we see reality.  It is so life like that we begin to accept what we see on there and that will influence we do.  Though it influences us it can not make us do anything and that is why even days after watching a commercial you can still remember the jingle that came with it.  Television comes with many positive impacts but also some negative.  It began to make us sedentary, stay indoors and it isolated us from the outside.  Instead of going to church every night of the week or having community events every weekend we are inside watching TV.  It plays such a large part of our lives and politics is no exception.  Now days TV ads are essential to a politician's campaign and can make or break their chances of winning.  Television may have its bad affects on our society, but it also spreads ideas and helps us communicate to a mass audience.
